DROPPED BEFORE THE VERDICT

Micheal Ward was dropped by his UK management company immediately after being charged with five sexual offences. After his career had been on hold for years, a jury unanimously found him not guilty on every count.

DROPPED BEFORE THE VERDICT

Micheal Ward’s career was rising quickly. He had starred in Blue Story, Top Boy and Steve McQueen’s Small Axe, won the BAFTA Rising Star Award and appeared alongside some of the biggest names in British and American cinema.

In January 2023, Ward was arrested following allegations concerning an encounter with a woman after a party in east London. He denied wrongdoing and maintained that the encounter had been consensual. The investigation continued for more than two years before charges were announced.

On 25 July 2025, the Crown Prosecution Service charged Ward with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and one count of sexual assault. Ward publicly denied every charge and said that he had full faith the proceedings would clear his name.

The professional consequences did not wait for those proceedings. Immediately after the charges were announced, Ward’s UK management company, Olivia Bell Management, confirmed that it no longer represented him. Work stopped. His lawyer would later say that Ward’s life and successful acting career had effectively been placed on hold for three and a half years.

Ward’s trial began at Snaresbrook Crown Court in June 2026. Over ten days, the jury heard the complainant’s evidence, Ward’s account, forensic material and testimony from other witnesses. Ward continued to maintain that no assault had taken place.

On 10 July 2026, the jury returned unanimous not-guilty verdicts on all five charges. Ward cried as each verdict was announced.

An acquittal does not establish that a complainant deliberately made a false allegation. It means the prosecution did not prove the charges to the criminal standard. But it does establish something equally important: Ward was tried by a jury and was not convicted of any offence.

By then, a decision carrying immense professional consequences had already been made. His representation had disappeared when he was charged, not when the evidence had been heard. His career had been suspended during years that could not subsequently be returned.

Micheal Ward entered the proceedings as an award-winning actor whose career was accelerating. He emerged with five unanimous not-guilty verdicts and the task of rebuilding it.

The jury cleared him in a day. The cancellation had lasted for years.
